Veterinarians

  • Dr.
    Wendy Thomas

Dr. Thomas graduated from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She joined MVC as an associate in 2010 and purchased the clinic in 2011. Her special interests include small animal soft tissue surgery, dermatology, dentistry, and large animal obstetrics and herd management. She lives south of Mediapolis with her husband Gregory and children Tillie Mae and Curtis. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, riding horses, watching her geese do geese things, and spending time with her family. She has a total of 26 animals living at her place. Ask her about them sometime, she loves to tell stories!

  • Dr.
    Seth Hartter

Dr. Seth Hartter received his veterinary training at Kansas State University after which he first practiced at a mixed animal clinic in northern Missouri.  Dr. Hartter became an associate veterinarian at the Mediapolis Veterinary Clinic in 2013. Some of his interests at work are orthopedic surgery and herd health.  He enjoys the opportunities to work with a variety of species and to get out into the country.  Outside of work he enjoys observing God’s creation, playing a guitar, and dabbling in construction projects.  His lovely wife, Brenda, grew up in the local area and they have been blessed with four sons and two daughters.  The animals that reside at their place include the more permanent Labrador Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix named Tucker, and the relatively temporary or occasional chickens, ducks, pigs, etc.

Registered Veterinary Technicians

What is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)?

It can be confusing to understand why it is important that we have RVTs in our practice instead of "vet techs" or "vet assistants." We may refer them as "vet techs" when you are at our clinic but it is important to understand that our techs are specially trained and licensed as nurses for our veterinary patients. In other clinics, "vet tech" and "vet assistant" may refer to someone who has no specialized training and no license requirements to keep them at the forefront of their chosen professions. Our RVTs are requred to obtain continuing education and reapply every other year to maintain their licensures. This means your pets and production animals are receiving the best care we can provide!

The Veterinary Technician Oath

When a technician receives their degree, they take an oath just like veteriniarians do. This is the oath that our technicians have pledged:

"I solemnly dedicate myself to aiding animals and society by providing excellent care and services for animals, by alleviating animal suffering, and by promoting public health.
I accept my obligations to practice my profession conscientiously and with sensitivity, adhering to the profession’s Code of Ethics, and furthering my knowledge and competence through a commitment to lifelong learning."
