Farm Calls FAQ's

Farm Calls FAQ

When farm animals need regular or urgent care, you can't always put them into the trailer and transport them to the vet. You need a veterinarian that does farm calls for treatment. Dr. Wendy Thomas and Dr. Seth Hartter respond to farm calls from Mediapolis Veterinary Clinic, an IA animal hospital. Our veterinary team is prepared to respond to farm animals in need of regular or urgent care. The team has a transportable chute to safely treat cattle in both urgent and non-urgent situations.

Why Schedule a Farm Call?

Horses, sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, and donkeys are difficult to transport to the animal hospital for veterinary care. Transport is not only time-consuming but also raises the stress levels of many animals. Sometimes, an injury makes transport difficult. Farm calls are a convenient solution to this, eliminating the need to trailer your animal. The animal experiences less stress, stays in familiar surroundings, and can relax as it is examined by Dr. Wendy Thomas and Dr. Seth Hartter.

What Occurs During a Farm Call?

Our veterinarian responds to each call with the appropriate equipment and medications to treat an animal according to its needs. If the farm call is for a routine visit, our veterinarian will perform a wellness check and administer vaccinations and/or medications as necessary. We can respond for a single animal or multiple depending on what services are needed.

Will Your Veterinarian Show Up After Hours?

Yes, our veterinarian will arrive after business hours. Part of the farm call service is responding to emergencies at all hours, as farm animals don't live by the clock. They get injured at all hours of the day, and our veterinarian is ready to respond to urgent care calls at any time of day or night.
